Live water for the Roughrider State — the great Missouri reservoirs Sakakawea & Oahe, Devils Lake, and the USACE lakes on the James, Sheyenne & Heart rivers. This is walleye, pike & perch country. The dammed reservoirs with NWPS gauges run live; the big Missouri lakes & Devils Lake read as honest SNAPSHOT cards (no public live pool feed). Every tube shows the pool, the current level, the lake's two signature fish (hover for the species, click for 2026 tournaments), and a live bite gauge. Scroll down for the Red River channel cats, the Little Missouri float, and the Prairie Pothole duck factory.

The Red River of the North is one of the best trophy channel catfish fisheries on the continent — Fargo, Wahpeton & Drayton give up giants, along with the James & Sheyenne. Live river stage (ft) from NOAA, with the action and flood stages marked. Rising, off-color water after a storm turns the cats on. Hover a cat for the species; tap it for a guide.
The Little Missouri winds through the Badlands of Theodore Roosevelt National Park; the Sheyenne, James & the Missouri below Garrison run the prairie. Live USGS gage height (ft); each tube marks FLOAT, EXPERT and FLOOD. Hover a fish; tap it for an outfitter.
The Little Missouri is a flashy, seasonal float — best on spring & early-summer flow; it can drop to a trickle by late summer. Always check the gage before launching.
North Dakota is the Duck Factory of North America — the Prairie Pothole Region produces more ducks than anywhere on the continent. The Devils Lake basin and the Souris refuges (Upper Souris, J. Clark Salyer) are the heart of it. Live water-level (ft) from NOAA & USGS. Hover a duck for the species; tap it for a guide.
The potholes & refuges fill with snowmelt & rain for the fall migration. Duck season runs roughly late September–December.
